Spotify’s AI DJ Can Now Take Your Requests – Just Tell It What You Want to Hear
Spotify’s AI DJ now supports voice commands for personalized playlists. Users can request specific songs, genres, or moods.

Spotify’s AI DJ Now Lets You Request Songs
Spotify’s AI-powered DJ feature, which creates personalized playlists based on your listening history, is getting a major upgrade. One of the first music streaming platforms to integrate artificial intelligence, Spotify introduced its AI DJ in 2023. The tool curates dynamic playlists that adapt to your music preferences — and now, it’s becoming even more interactive.
With the latest update, Spotify Premium users can directly tell the DJ what they want to hear, rather than relying solely on AI-generated suggestions. This makes the listening experience more personal and responsive.
Using the feature is simple: just press and hold the DJ button in the app and wait for a beep. After the audio cue, you can give voice commands like, “Play me some electronic beats for a midday run,” or “Surprise me with some indie tracks I haven’t heard before.”
Previously, the AI DJ would automatically play music without letting users customize what came next. Now, you can request specific songs, explore your favorite genres, focus on particular artists, or ask the DJ to match your mood — giving you much more control over your playlist.
This update marks a significant step forward in making Spotify’s AI DJ a smarter, more conversational companion for music lovers.
Spotify has also integrated its AI playlist-building feature into the DJ experience, allowing users to create playlists using simple text prompts. For instance, you can now ask the DJ to play something like “music to soundtrack my life as a movie,” and it will generate a fitting playlist based on your request.
It’s worth noting that this feature is still in beta, which means it has some limitations. For now, the AI DJ is focused solely on music and won’t respond to non-music-related queries — so don’t expect it to answer questions about audiobooks or podcasts just yet.
